ExplanationDuring Fiscal Year 2017, Bloodworks had the following state legislative agenda items: 1) In Fiscal 2017 Bloodworks worked with the WA legislature to get a bill passed allowing access to the HOV lanes for the Bloodworks delivery fleet. Bloodworks employees and lobbyists worked with the legislature's transportation committee on the bill. Bloodworks employees conducted a 'day in Olympia' to meet with the Senate and House representatives to garner support for the bill. The bill (Bill S-5837) passed in reduced form and will be resubmitted in 2018. 2) In 2016 Bloodworks worked with the WA legislature to get signed into law a registration requirement with the WA Department of Health for entities who were collecting blood. The intent was to make all entities collecting blood subject to the same stringent licensure imposed by the FDA that blood banks must follow. This bill passed during the 2016 legislative session. On June 23, 2017, the Department of Health adopted a rule that would change the legislative intent of SHB 2580 by allowing hospitals to be exempt from the FDA licensure requirement. Bloodworks is challenging the new Rule.ExplanationTxt
