(the "center") through disbursement of (a) approved spending policy distribution grants and (b) grants of gifts received from other foundations to support center education and opera programs, artistic initiatives, facility improvements and general operations.spending policy distributions are based on the related established board policy to provide a consistent process to move funds from the endowment to operating funds on an annual or approved basis. gifts received by the foundation and transferred to the center from other foundations are approved by the foundation board or per donor request.with the foundation serving as the endowment fund and support for the center, the foundation provided the Center financial stability in fiscal year 2016/2017 and helped maintain the center's high standards of excellence and creativity as well as providing patrons the ability to continue to enjoy the center's programs.TBAC Foundation, Inc. Endowment by the Numbers:661 donors have contributed to the STRAZ Center endowment, ensuring that our programs will impact Tampa Bay in perpetuity.$63 million in gifts and pledges has been committed to the Straz Center endowment from both the private and public sectors through outright gifts and planned gifts. In 2017, $1.3 million of endowment earnings were distributed to the Straz Center's operating budget to support artisitc excellence, arts eduation and our state-of-the-art facilities.Impact of the Endowment:Income from our endowment allows the Straz Center to provide the highest level of artistic programming while also ensuring that young talent flourishes in our community. It also supports vital capital projects that help the Straz Center remain an industry standard.Artistic Excellence - Last year, more than 600,000 people came to the Straz Center to see a diverse menu of world-class cultural offerings. These offerings include the popular Broadway at the Straz Series, Opera Tampa, Intimate conerts in Club Jaeb, the National Geographic speakers, dance, comedy and so much more. In May, the Straz Center is excited to bring the acclaimed ballet powerhouse Ballet Nacional de Cuba to Moasani Hall.Opera Tampa - In addition to the powerful mainstage productions that take place at the Straz Center each year, the demand for the Opera Tampa Singers educational outreach programs has increased more than 56% in the past five seasons. In 2017, the Opera Tampa singers educated and inspired more than 8,600 students, teachers, families and seniors in more than 50 locations inluding schools, senior centers, hospitals and public areas throughout Tampa Bay.Arts Education - The Straz Center continues its commitment to teaching and arts education on our stages, in our classrooms and out in our community. The Straz Center's field trip program is the longest running arts education program. Since 1987, more than 1 million Tampa Bay children have attended educational, school day performances at the Straz Center. In 2017, 1,746 students of all ages took classes during the school year and attended summer camps at the Patel Conservatory, discovering their creative potential through dance, music and theater.Outreach - In 2017, the Straz Center served 35 partnering schools and agnecies and over 5,000 students through our community partnership program. Of those participating students, 2,250 experienced their first professional performance. In one instance, students from disadvantaged elementary and high schools participated in a 10-week, intergenerational learning project that partnered them wirh teaching artists and neighborhood senior citizens to explore what it means to grow up.Themed on the story of Peter Pan and Neverland, the project focused on the creation and performance of vignette stories that explore different generational experiences, including those reflected by the seniors' own lives. The project culminated with students, seniors and teachers together attending the Broadway touring production of Finding Neverland at the Straz Center.Scholarships - Scholarships enabled students, expecially those who otherwise would be unable to participate, to enroll in 506 classes and camps at the Patel Conservatory in 2017. Nearly $306,000 in need-based and merit scholarships was awarded to students in grades K-12 to pursue training in their area of interest.Ticket Subsidies - Our Operation Tickets Program provides subsidized tickets to more than 2,200 students from participating schools, including a majority of Title I schools, to attend more than 40 different Straz Center performances related to their classroom studies. One group traveled to the Straz Center from Pasco County to see a performance of Wicked. It was the first professional live performance they had seen. The Rachl Lisi Ticket Subsidy Fund aided low-inome and underserved individuals and fiamilies through subsidized tickets to performances.Capital Improvements - The Straz Center continues to be a state-of-the-art facility that offers the very best experience for performers and patrons alike. During this past year, backstage dressing rooms were upgraded to provide modern conveniences for cast members. In addition, the patron experience was elevated through our seat renovation project. This project included the restoration of all seats in the Orchestra section of Morsani Hall. The project will continue in the upcoming years as we upgrade our seating in the entire theater.Desc

Form And Line ReferencePart IV, Section C, Line 1:FormAndLineReferenceDesc
ExplanationFifty-six percent of the Foundation's Board OF Directors are also Board Trustees on the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center Inc. dba David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts. The control and management by these Directors is vested as Trustees of the TBPAC Center Inc., given they attend the respective Board meetings on each entity and have voting rights. In addition, the President and CEO of the TBPAC Center Inc., is also a Board Director of the TBPAC Foundation. Accordingly, from both a Center and Foundation Board Governance oversight, an adequate level of vesting and support by both Boards for any funding requests that the Center may have given the only mission of the Foundation is to support the Center. For the current 2016 tax year the Center's funding requirements from the Foundation Board consist of a) Annual Administrative Service Fees - for administrative support provided by the Center to the Foundation through an arms length service agreement and b) Annual Spending Policy Distribution (2-5% of unrestricted endowment portfolio invested earnings). If there are any one time requests from the Center to the foundation for special funding needs, the request is discussed with the Center's Board Finance and Executive Committees and then brought forward to the Treasurer and Foundation Board for consideration and approval. In addition, note the Foundation's Investment Committee, the only standing Board Committee of the Foundation, is comprised of both Board trustees of the Center and the Foundation. This committee oversees both the Center and Foundation's endowment portfolios, with the public endowment grant match funds residing in the Center's portfolio. Therefore, the Investment Committee is comprised of a total of 7 Board Members, coming from both Boards, comprised of 4 Foundation Board Directors and 3 Center Board Trustees.
