INVESTMENT INCOME EARNED ON THE NEH ENDOWMENT FUNDS IS TO BE USED FOR SUPPORT OF HUMANITIES ACTIVITIES IN EDUCATION, PUBLIC PROGRAMMING, SCHOLARLY RESEARCH, AND PRESERVATION AND IS TEMPORARILY RESTRICTED UNTIL USED FOR THAT PURPOSE.
LIABILITY FOR UNCERTAIN TAX POSITION (ASC 740)	SCHEDULE D, PART X, LINE 2 IREX FOLLOWS GUIDANCE THAT CLARIFIES THE ACCOUNTING FOR UNCERTAINTY IN TAX POSITIONS TAKEN OR EXPECTED TO BE TAKEN IN A TAX RETURN, INCLUDING ISSUES RELATING TO FINANCIAL STATEMENT RECOGNITION AND MEASUREMENT. THIS GUIDANCE PROVIDES THAT THE TAX EFFECTS FROM AN UNCERTAIN TAX POSITION CAN ONLY BE RECOGNIZED IN THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS IF THE POSITION IS 'MORE-LIKELY-THAN-NOT' TO BE SUSTAINED IF THE POSITION WERE TO BE CHALLENGED BY A TAXING AUTHORITY. THE ASSESSMENT OF THE TAX POSITION IS BASED SOLELY ON THE TECHNICAL MERITS OF THE POSITION, WITHOUT REGARD TO THE LIKELIHOOD THAT THE TAX POSITION MAY BE CHALLENGED. IREX IS EXEMPT FROM FEDERAL INCOME TAX UNDER IRC SECTION 501(C)(3), THOUGH IT IS SUBJECT TO TAX ON INCOME UNRELATED TO ITS EXEMPT PURPOSE, UNLESS THAT INCOME IS OTHERWISE EXCLUDED BY THE CODE. NO PROVISION FOR INCOME TAXES HAS BEEN RECORDED IN 2017 AND 2016 BECAUSE MANAGEMENT BELIEVES THERE IS NO MATERIAL UNRELATED BUSINESS INCOME TAX. SCHEDULE F, PARTS II AND III IREX PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO STUDY IN THE U.S. FOR APPROXIMATELY 2,569 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FROM JULY 1, 2016 TO JUNE 30, 2017. PROFESSIONAL EXCHANGES IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION AND JOURNALISM WERE ALSO PROVIDED TO OVER 396 INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONALS. IREX REQUESTS THAT THE GRANT RECIPIENTS SIGN AGREEMENTS THAT THE AWARDS ARE FOR THEIR INTENDED PURPOSE.
