| Desc | As we have since 1978, SBIDC worked tirelessly to ensure that the industrial core of Southwest Brooklyn remains strong, and that it remains as a center for opportunity for workers throughout the area. Our unique combination of direct business services, workforce development, entrepreneurship training, community planning and revitalization, and advocacy helped businesses throughout Southwest Brooklyn thrive in a market, and a city, that can be challenging for manufacturers and other industrial businesses.In calendar year 2017 alone, some examples of our impact included: Placing 333 individuals in fulltime, industrial jobs - nearly quadrupling the number of placementsHelping 128 businesses to solve everyday issues, access essential financial incentives and answer their human resources needsFacilitating training for 19 businesses planning to expand and to improve their operations Hosting 11 business development workshops and networking eventsProducing 2 Red Hook street fairs recognized by NYC DOT as among their top events We also significantly expanded our advocacy efforts to ensure that industrial and manufacturing businesses are able to remain and to thrive along Southwest Brooklyn's working waterfront Providing testimony before the City Council and engaging with elected officials Informing major rezoning processes occurring in and around the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone (IBZ)Helping to organize numerous public forums on issues of importanceAs we prepare to launch into our 40th Anniversary year, SBIDC has jumpstarted several new initiatives aimed at making the organization both more financially stable and entrepreneurial.
