Form And Line ReferenceFormAndLineReferenceDescExplanationExplanationTxt
Schedule D, Part II, Line 9The University's conservation easements are immaterial in nature; therefore, do not require separate disclosure in the audited financial statements.
Schedule D, Part III, Line 4The University houses the Maine Women Writer's Collection of literature. In addition, art galleries are located on the Biddeford and Portland campuses that exhibit paintings and other works of art. These collections and exhibits further the liberal arts curriculum and scholarly activities.
Schedule D, Part V, Line 4The University uses income from its endowment in accordance with the donors' wishes. Most of the donor restricted income is for student scholarships. If the donor makes no restrictions or if the endowment is board created, the income is used for scholarships and / or general use.
Schedule D, Part X, Line 2The University is exempt from income taxes under Internal Revenue Code (Code) Section 501(c)(3) whereby only unrelated business income, as defined by Section 512(a)(1) of the Code, is subject to federal income tax. FASB ASC Topic 740, Income Taxes, clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an enterprise's financial statements and prescribes a threshold of more likely than not for recognition of tax benefits of uncertain tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. ASC Topic 740 also provides related guidance on measurement, classification, interest and penalties, and disclosure. Based on its analysis, the University has determined that the adoption of ASC Topic 740 does not have a material impact to its financial statements. However, the University's conclusions may be subject to review and adjustment at a later date based on factors including, but not limited to, further implementation guidance expected from FASB and on going analyses of tax laws, regulations, and interpretations thereof.
