| Desc | TRADITIONAL SCOUTINGSEE SCHEDULE OTRADITIONAL SCOUTINGSix programs providing age appropriate educational opportunities for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. Tiger Cubs is a family- and home-centered program that encourages ethical decision-making skills for first-grade (or 7-year old) boys; emphasizes shared leadership, learning about the community, and family understanding. Cub Scouts is a family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys in the second through fifth grades (or who are 8, 9, and 10 years old); emphasizes character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Webelos Scouts is a family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for fourth and fifth grade (or 10 year old) boys; offers more advanced activities to prepare Webelos to become Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts is a program for boys 11 through 17 years old designed to achieve the aims of scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of adult Scoutmasters. Varsity Scouts is an active, exciting program for young men 14 through 17 built around five program fields of emphasis: advancement, high adventure, personal development, service, and special programs events. Venturing is a program for young women and men age 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through age 20 providing positive experiences through exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help them pursue their special interests, grow by teaching others, and develop leadership skills. As of December 31, 2016, there were 29,644 youths in traditional Scouting. STEM Scouts is a national pilot program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) focused on fun ways for girls and boys, grades 3-12, to learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Using hands-on activities, field trips, and interaction with STEM professionals, STEM Scouts encourages young minds' natural curiosity and helps build interest in the STEM-related careers that are so crucial to our future economy. While the program focuses on future careers in STEM, it is ultimately designed to be challenging, thought-provoking and, most importantly, fun while encouraging skills in leadership, teamwork, problem solving, and communication.During 2015, our Scouts put the Scouting Spirit into action by collecting more than 2.25 million food items during the Scouting for Food drive in November. The council also continued its commitment to reaching and serving more youth in underserved areas by adding 10 new Scout groups in north St. Louis county and forming a new partnership with St. Louis Public Schools to provide a unique outdoor experience to urban youth. | Desc |
