MissionRetreat Inc's (The Retreat) mission is to provide safety, shelter and support to victims of domestic abuse and break the cycle of family violence. In executing its mission, the retreat (1) provides shelter and support for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking; (2) operates a 24/7 crisis hotline; (3) provides counseling services; (4) assists victims with legal advocacy needs; (5) educates community members about the issue of domestic and dating violence; (6) goes into schools to develop programs that will help end abusive behavior; and (7) trains personnel in other social service agencies to recognize domestic violence. The retreat continues to provide housing for families emerging from crisis. When clients leave the emergency shelter more often than not, few options exist for them to transition into permanent housing. Currently, families often have to choose between going to a homeless shelter or returning to an abuser. The availability of criticalMissionDesc

Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services DescriptionOTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: THE RETREAT OPERATES A MULTIFACETED EDUCATION PROGRAM SERVING THE COMMUNITY VIA WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATIONS ON TOPICS SUCH AS: BULLYING, CYBER SAFETY, TEEN DATING AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. A critical goal of these programs is to effectively help children and teenagers build self-esteem while enabling them to identify and understand how to deal with problem situations on the playground, in their home or in dating relationships. Through these programs, children learn at an early age that violence is unacceptable. The Retreat facilitates a Teen Leadership Project that allows students from local high schools to come together and develop their own ways to spread the word on prevention of Domestic Violence. Take Charge is a training program for victims of domestic violence that provides career guidance and financial education workshops. The mission of the program is to help survivors identify and use their strengths, talents and motivation to reach a career track and gain knowledge to manage personal finances. Structured Help Anti-violence Re-Education Program (SHARP) is a program focused around anti-violence re-education for men who have abused. SHARP helps men learn new strategies to deal with relationship issues. This 32 week program actively confronts and works to change the patterns of abuse/battering while encouraging men to remain nonviolent. Participants are either mandated by the court to attent or enroll voluntarily. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: The Retreats comprehensive 24-hour hotline provides crisis intervention and instant linkages to local and statewide resources. The hotline provides education and referrals to callers and also screens callers for eligibility to our counseling, advocacy and shelter programs. Hotline staff are trained in crisis management and follow procedures to contact the police if necessary. Our hotline receives police reports from precincts on the East End that were logged as domestic abuse. Retreat staff reviews and will work to discreetly reach out to individuals to offer assistance. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: The Retreat operates a thrift store which is located in Bridgehampton. The store is known as The Retreat Boutique. The thrift shop revenues support the organization's annual operating budget. Donations accepted include gently used clothing, scarves, handbags, shoes, jewelry, furniture and household items to sell to the community. Volunteers are welcome and encouraged to participate in our thrift store programs. Retreat clients are encouraged to visit the store to access and acquire, at no cost, interview clothing, furniture, and household items they need to start a new life that is free from violence. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: The Retreats Housing programs provide focused supportive services that foster independent and violence free living. Services include case management, counseling and advocacy services, self-sufficiency/life-skills/job readiness training & mentoring; and temporary, situational child care. Via the US Department of Housing and Urban Developments (HUD) Supportive Housing Program the Retreat provides housing to one victim of domestic violence with a disability and her children. Additionally, the Retreat operates a Transitional Housing Program in collaboration with the LI Housing Partnership. This program is funded through US Department of Justices Office of Violence Against Women. The individuals who access these services need assistance in finding housing and accessing housing related education. This program will help clients with housing related costs such as security deposits,6 months rent, and broker fees, utility deposits, and moving expenses, in addition to client education to locate and sustain affordable housing as well as live in a safe environment. PLEASE NOTE ALL RETREAT PROGRAM EXPENSES ARE EXCLUSIVE OF PRO-RATA SHARE OF ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: The fatherhood initiative program is a collaborative program to assist low-income, at-risk fathers intended to prevent incidences of family/domestic abuse and overcome challenges that inhibit men from being a responsible father to their children and positive support to their intimate partner/wives. The program targets men who are fathers of at least one minor child, Suffolk County resident and is at least 18 years old. Many of these men are faced with challenges such as unemployment and/or living below poverty level and most are struggling with a) developing or maintaining healthy relationships with their children and intimate partner/wives b) learning how to parent or co-parent effectively and c) being able to support themselves and their families financially. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: The Retreat's ancillary prevention services are spread amongst five programs: mobility management, disability grant, campus safety grant, regional centers for sexual violence prevention (HRI)and Enough is Enough. The mobility management program is funded through New York State and is referred to as the moving forward project (MFP). MFP is a program that provides hundreds of low-income, domestic violence affected individuals with a higher level of awareness about transportation services, and how to access these services. This program also identifies services these individuals need to be able to maintain sustainable employment. Our disability program is a collaborative partnership between the retreat, parents for Megan's Law (CVC) and the association for mental health and wellness. Each organization has a specialty niche to expand knowledge and awareness of how best to holistically provide treatment to clients. The overarching goal is to make services as accessible as possible for clients experiencing violence through policy changes that will overcome identified barriers. Systematic change will be made across all three organizations which will then train other service networks. The campus safety grant has partnered with Nassau Community College to provide services to education students to reduce sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking on college campuses and to comprehensively support students if it does occur. HRI known as partner in Prevention is collaboration between the retreat and the Suffolk county coalition against domestic violence and is funded through NYS department of health. This initiative focuses on the primary prevention of sexual assault with the high risk of vulnerable populations of youth and young adults involved in (1) the foster care system (2) substance abuse treatment and (3) developmental disabilities communities on long island and the influential adults who work closely with them. Enough is enough is program where its collaborative effort is funded through the NYS Department of Health. Through this initiative, Retreat staff have partnered with Farmingdale State College to provide education and resources for both staff and students around sexual violence prevention, and to ensure understanding of the rights of any victim. Programs provided through this program are geared for college-age students and college staff.
