| Desc | As we have since 1978, this year we worked tirelessly to ensure that the industrial core of Southwest Brooklyn remains strong, and that it remains as a center for opportunity for workers throughout the area. Our unique combination of direct business services, workforce development, entrepreneurship training, community planning and revitalization, and advocacy helped businesses throughout Southwest Brooklyn thrive in a market, and a city, that can be challenging for manufacturers and other industrial businesses. Most notably, we partnered with the City of New York to open the Brooklyn Workforce 1 Industrial & Transportation Career Center in April 2016, greatly growing our workforce development capacity and enabling us to serve a far greater number of businesses and jobseekers with job placement and retention services. As the center has reached full operation, we are excited to continue to serve the Brooklyn community and help build a bridge between local residents seeking employment with career growth potential and companies looking to hire locally. We also launched the first two cohorts of the Plan for Growth entrepreneurship training program, a cohort-based program that gives small businesses the tools they need to manage their growth effectively and sustainably, and to take their operations to the next level. In 2017, we look forward to hosting additional cohorts as part of this program, and including a special series targeted to low- and moderate-income businesses. We hosted our second annual Red Hook Walks street festival in July, which brought together members of the community and featured live music, games, presentations, and other entertainment on Van Brunt Street. Local restaurants offered outdoor seating, and stores displayed their wares in the street, leading to increased business.And overall, we continued to provide a high quality of service for all of the businesses with whom we worked. | Desc |
