By launching the California Healthspan Initiative (CHI), the state can start to prepare for the significant demographic shifts toward an aging population that are going to significantly challenge the economy and strain the healthcare system. The program is to fund the development of technologies that will improve the healthspan of our aging population, improving lives, decreasing healthcare costs, and empowering people to live longer and healthier in their golden years. 2) Formally proposing the establishment of the National Institute for Longevity and Aging Research (NILAR).
