Form And Line ReferenceFormAndLineReferenceDescExplanationExplanationTxt
Schedule D, Part III, Line 4 Collections of art - description of collectionsThe organization's collections of art consist primarily of donated works of art that are on display in public spaces. These works of art are intended to provide a welcoming environment for students, faculty, and visitors, which is in line with the organization's mission. The organization also maintains a collection of rare historical books, which further the organization's religious and educational mission.
Schedule D, Part V, Line 4 Intended uses of endowment fundsThe purpose of the endowment fund is to provide funds to underwrite the educational needs of current and future generations of students while enhancing the well being of the college. To satisfy its long-term rate-of-return objectives, the college combines the goal of total return and preservation of capital with prudent risk tolerance in order to allow investment managers the opportunity to achieve investment results consistent with the financial objectives of the endowment fund and in a manner consistent with the Catholic values of the college. The college targets diversified asset allocation in order to manage downside volatility and risk while achieving the endowment's return objectives.
Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 FIN 48 (ASC 740) footnoteThe Internal Revenue Service has determined that the College is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization as defined in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code ("IRC"). As such, the College is generally not subject to federal or state income taxes except for certain income derived from unrelated business activities as defined by the IRC. Any such taxes resulting from unrelated business activities are insignificant to the operations of the College. U.S. GAAP prescribes recognition thresholds and measurement attributes for the financial statement recognition and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. Tax benefits will be recognized only if the tax position is more-likely-than-not to be sustained in a tax examination, with a tax examination being presumed to occur. The amount recognized will be the largest amount of tax benefit that is greater than 50% likely of being realized on examination. For tax positions not meeting the more-likely-than-not test, no tax benefit will be recorded. Management has concluded that they are unaware of any tax benefits or liabilities to be recognized at May 31, 2015 and 2014. The College is no longer subject to examination by U.S. federal taxing authorities for years before 2012 and for all state income taxes through 2012. The College does not expect the total amount of unrecognized tax benefits to significantly change in the next 12 months. The College would recognize interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits in interest and income tax expense, respectively. The College is unaware of any interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits and no amounts have been accrued for interest or penalties as of May 31, 2015 and 2014.

Schedule J, Part I, Line 1a Travel for companionsTravel expenses for a spouse are reimbursable if it can be shown that the person's presence was directly related to the effective accomplishment of College business. The President is often required to have extensive and unique contact with key constituencies on behalf of the College. When performing official duties in such areas as development, alumni, college relations, and professional organizations (and because spouses make an important contribution to the success of these events), the College will pay the spouse's travel expenses if both the following conditions are met: (1) The spouse attends and contributes to the official function. This includes events when the spouses of the College's guests are expected to be present. (2) The purpose of the travel and the expenses incurred are fully documented and the activities of the spouse relating to College business are outlined. Since the travel expenses paid on behalf of the President's spouse met the two conditions stated above and were for business purposes, the amount is not included in the President's taxable compensation
Schedule J, Part I, Line 1a Housing allowance or residence for personal useThe President of the College is provided a housing allowance. This is reported on her W-2 as taxable compensation.
Schedule J, Part I, Line 4b Supplemental nonqualified retirement planThe College's President participates in a supplemental nonqualified retirement plan as part of her employment agreement. There were no deferred contributions to or payments from the plan during calendar year 2014.
