| Desc | Fibershed's Program Accomplishments for 2015 include: 1) Public presentations (for over 1800 people) on the intersection of climate change and agriculture, and the importance building soil health for carbon sequestration. 2) Hemp agriculture research in Colorado and Kentucky was focused on harvesting and subsequent textile creation through researching how to work with on-farm resources to make textile grade yarns and value-added product and will provide important data for developing an emerging hemp fiber industry in the US. 3) Indigo research included a prototyping project to construct a homegrown denim with our biodynamic cotton and our organic indigo research plots 4) Increased access to homegrown fibers and goods, allowing the public to spend time directly with artisans and farmers at local markets and fairs, reaching several thousand people. 5) Provided scholarships for students to learn about cotton breeding practices for quality fiber 6) Organized and implemented our annual Wool & Fine Fiber Symposium, attended by 150 people and streaming live on the internet to over 1000 others. 7) Workshops on prescribed grazing, natural dyes, and photography classes were offered to the public, attended by approximately 200 students. 8) The Fibershed Producer Program focus in 2015 was education and outreach to our community of 100 producers on the benefits of carbon farming, including: how we can increase water holding capacity in our soils, increase forage production, and produce carbon sequestering fiber. | Desc |
