DescEach year in the EMHS Annual Report, we present relevant topics, the important work going on throughout our system, and the continuing transformation of the healthcare landscape. As we pause to reflect on 2014, the dominate theme that resounds from Presque Isle to Portland and Blue Hill to Waterville is captured in one wordchange. At EMHS, in the past few years, we have reinvented leadership and governance structures and decision-making processes to better address the remarkable evolution of healthcare delivery and reimbursement that is predominant in our present environment. This restructuring is critical to ensure our system is well poised to provide the people of Maine with the right care, at the right time, and in the right place. Below are just a few highlights from this past year of initiatives that we believe are symbolic of the progress we continue to make:EMHS continues to make healthcare transformation and population health come to life. Through our Difference in Care report (released in October), we share timely statistical improvement as well as show how we are energizing and engaging employees, patients, providers, and communities in this challenging effort. We continue to work collaboratively at the national level, looking at not only making a difference in healthcare in Maine, but to be a change leader throughout the country. The Northern New England Accountable Care Collaborative is creating resources necessary to propel the reinvention of our care model. In addition, our work in the High Value Healthcare Collaborative (co-owned with Dartmouth, MaineHealth, and the University of Vermont Medical Center) this past year has been focused on sepsis care and prevention, patient engagement, and shared decision-making pilot projects. In mid-2014, EMHS completed a Community Health Needs Assessment of the northern two-thirds of Maineincluding the counties of Aroostook, Cumberland, Hancock, Kennebec, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, and Washington. This report is foundational and imperative to achieving our mission of improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve, and we are busy building work plans with partners in each of these counties to address the findings of the assessment. In addition, our community health work will advance as we embark on a three-year initiative to improve the health of Maines population in the seven most northern counties. This opportunity is made possible through a $4.05 million cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where EMHS will lead a collaborative of eleven Healthy Maine Partnerships and other strategic community partners to reduce barriers that affect health, such as improving access to healthy foods, increasing opportunities for physical activity, preventing and managing chronic diseases, and educating and empowering people to lead healthy lives. This great work would not be possible without the efforts of the thousands of dedicated individuals who bring their talents and skills to EMHS sites of service across Maine. In addition, our team is superbly supported by more than 100 volunteer board members who give countless hours of guidance on behalf of their communities. Change is never easy, but all of us at EMHS are determined to create a healthcare delivery system of the future as we pursue our 2020 vision to be a nationally recognized model of excellence in healthcare.M. Part V, Line 4: Intended uses of the endowment fund.Endowment funds are designated for purposes that align within this organization's exempt purpose.
Part X : FIN48 FootnoteIncome TaxesEMHS, its hospitals, and certain other affiliates have been determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be tax-exempt charitable organizations as described in Section 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code (the Code) and, accordingly, are exempt from federal income taxes on related income pursuant to Section 501(a) of the Code. Accordingly, no provision for federal income taxes has been recorded in the accompanying consolidated financial statements for these organizations.Tax-exempt charitable organizations could be required to record an obligation for income taxes as the result of a tax position they have historically taken on various tax exposure items including unrelated business income or tax status. Under guidance issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), assets and liabilities are established for uncertain tax positions taken or positions expected to be taken in income tax returns when such positions are judged to not meet the "more-likely-than-not" threshold, based upon the technical merits of the position. Estimated interest and penalties, if applicable, related to uncertain tax positions are included as a component of income tax expense. The System has evaluated its tax position taken or expected to be taken on income tax returns and concluded the impact to be not material.Certain of the System's affiliates are taxable entities. Deferred taxes related to these entities are based on the difference between the financial statement and tax basis of assets and liabilities using enacted tax rates in effect in the years the differences are expected to reverse. The deferred tax assets and liabilities for these entities are not material.
Part XI, Line 2d: Other revenue amounts included in F/S but not included on form 990Reimbursement of expenses reclass to exp $83108490
Part XII, Line 2d: Other expenses and losses per audited F/SRental Expenses reclass to Line 6b $637296 Bad Debt expense relass to revenue $0
