WE WILL PROVIDE LEADERSHIP FOR OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES TO INSPIRE THEIR ACHIEVEMENT OF THE GOALS ESTABLISHED IN THIS MISSION STATEMENT. U OF L'S COMPETITIVE ATHLETICS PROVIDE AN OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP LABORATORY, AND ITS HIGH QUALITY CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION PROVIDES OUTSTANDING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASSURE THAT OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES BENEFIT FROM THESE EDUCATIONAL AND ATHLETIC EXPERIENCES AT U OF L. TO HELP ACCOMPLISH OUR MISSION, WE PROVIDE SUPERIOR SERVICES TO OUR FANS AND DONORS, THE PRIMARY FINANCIAL RESOURCES THAT SUPPORT OUR PROGRAM. | Description | THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION ACHIEVED A FIRST IN NCAA HISTORY DURING THE 2012-13 SEASON. THE SCHOOL WON A BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES GAME AND A BASKETBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, CLAIMED A WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NATIONAL RUNNER-UP FINISH, AND SAW ITS BASEBALL PROGRAM REACH THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES. IN ADDITION TO THE MEN'S BASKETBALL NATIONAL TITLE, ITS THIRD NCAA CROWN IN SCHOOL HISTORY, MEN'S SWIMMER JOAO DE LUCCA CAPTURED THE NCAA 200 FREESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIP. TEAM WISE, LOUISVILLE RECORDED EIGHT BIG EAST CONFERENCE TITLES, WITH MEN'S BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL EARNING BOTH THE REGULAR SEASON AND CONFERENCE CROWNS. ELEVEN OF UOFL'S TEAMS REACHED OR HAD A PARTICIPANT REACH NCAA POSTSEASON PLAY, AND AN ASTOUNDING 10 TEAMS FINISHED THEIR SEASONS RANKED IN THE TOP 25-NATIONALLY. LOUISVILLE'S COMBINED 126 WINS IN ITS FOUR HIGHLY VISIBLE SPORTS (BASEBALL, MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, AND FOOTBALL) IS JUST THREE WINS SHORT OF THE NCAA RECORD FOR A SINGLE SEASON (126-30, .808 WINNING PERCENTAGE). EQUALLY AS IMPRESSIVE WAS THE FACT THAT LOUISVILLE WAS THE ONLY SCHOOL IN THE NATION WITH ITS FOOTBALL AND MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS ALL RANKED AMONG THE NATION'S AP TOP 20. ALSO OF NOTE, LOUISVILLE ATHLETICS TEAMS POSTED 49 VICTORIES OVER TOP 25 NATIONALLY RANKED OPPONENTS DURING THE 2012-13 SEASON. INDIVIDUAL FEATS INCLUDED SIX PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARDS, 11 MOST VALUABLE PLAYER HONORS, AND 13 DRAFT PICKS. LOUISVILLE'S STUDENT-ATHLETES ACHIEVED REMARKABLE SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM, POSTING A RECORD 3.124 CUMULATIVE GPA FOR ALL 23 SPORTS. ADDITIONALLY, A SCHOOL-BEST 355 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARNED AD HONOR ROLL STATUS FOR THE 2012 FALL SEMESTER (3.0 GPA). SIX DIFFERENT TEAMS POSTED A PERFECT SCORE OF 1000 IN THE MOST RECENT SINGLE-YEAR ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATE (APR) DATA RELEASED BY THE NCAA. MAYBE EVEN A MORE SIGNIFICANT POINT IN CARDINALS ATHLETICS HISTORY, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF VICE PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS TOM JURICH, LOUISVILLE ACCEPTED AN INVITATION ON NOV. 28, 2012, TO JOIN THE ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE. LOUISVILLE FINISHED EIGHTH ON THE MEN'S SIDE, ITS HIGHEST RANK IN SCHOOL HISTORY, AND 29TH ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE IN THE CAPITAL ONE CUP, AND THE SCHOOL TOOK 38TH IN THE LEARFIELD SPORTS DIRECTORS' CUP. | Description |
