| Description | Perkins School for the Blind (Perkins) programs and services touch the lives of more than 880,000 infants, toddlers, school atudents, adults and seniors on our Watertown, MA., campus, in the community, across the U.S., and around the world. Perkins provides services in every state in the U.S. and in 67 countries worldwide. Perkins, the first school in the U.S. to educate students with visual impairments, has stood as a thought leader from its earliest days. Perkins pioneered the education of children who are deafblind, and the school continues to nurture an innovatove teaching and learning environment through 9 main program areas: Infant and Toddler Program; Early Learning Center; Lower School; Secondary Program; Educational Parnership Program; Community Programs; eLearning; Outreach Short Courses;and the Deafblind Program. | Description |

Today, the re-designed Perkins SMART Brailler merges computer technology with its famous predecessor, fostering literacy through braille for a new generation of learners. Perkins Products accessible technology provides communication and daily living solutions to people of all ages. | Explanation | Part II-A, Line 1(a & b), Other Lobbying Activities Perkins School for the Blind (Perkins) receives funding from the Commonwealth of Masachusetts through an annual budget appropriation to help execute the functions of the Braille and Talking Book Library (the Library) which is located at Perkins. In addition, Perkins rates for tuition for its special education programs are set by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. During these difficult times, the school works with the Director of the Library and others at Perkins to raise awareness of the important work of the library and by special Education programs and the importance of maintaining funding from the Commonwealth for the administration of the Library and for the Special Education Programs. The work performed includes tracking the budget process and keeping Perkins aware of the status of the budget process. It also involves arranging meetings with members of the legislature and members of the administration to raise awareness of Perkins and the Library and the critically important resource that the Library, and the school represents for its cliental and students.
