TWO OTHERS WERE BY THE HIGHLY REGARDED CHOREOGRAPHER CHRISTOPHER WHEELDON AND BALLET MASTER IN CHIEF CREATED A PIECE D'OCCASION FOR THE 2012 FALL GALA. THE SEASON PROGRAMMING ALSO HIGHLIGHTED THE COMPOSER-CHOREOGRAPHER RELATIONSHIPS THAT DISTINGUISH THE COMPANY AND DEFINE ITS REPERTORY. A TOTAL OF NINE WEEKS OF THE REPERTORY SEASON FEATURED A BALANCHINE/STRAVINSKY FESTIVAL IN FALL 2012, A TSCHAIKOVSKY FESTIVAL IN WINTER 2013, AND AN AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL IN SPRING 2013. THROUGH THE 2012-2013 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, THE COMPANY REACHED OVER 8,300 CHILDREN IN 21 NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS ACROSS ALL BOROUGHS EXCEPT STATEN ISLAND IN THE DAVID H. KOCH THEATER AT LINCOLN CENTER. ON-SITE AT THE DAVID H. KOCH THEATER, THOUSANDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN TOURS, WORKSHOPS, AND FAMILY PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO GIVE THEM AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE DAILY GOINGS ON OF THE COMPANY AND TO INVOLVE THEM WITH EXPERIENCES OF BOTH DOING AND SEEING BALLET. IN ADDITION, THE COMPANY IS WORKING TO EXPAND ITS AUDIENCES AND REACH YOUNGER DEMOGRAPHICS BY LAUNCHING ACCESS EVENINGS - SO CALLED BECAUSE ALL TICKETS WERE PRICED AT $29. THE FIRST WAS HELD ON OCTOBER 4, 2012 AND THE PERFORMANCE SOLD 95% OF SEAT CAPACITY. IN AN EFFORT TO BE SURE WE DRAW YOUNGER, MORE DIVERSE AUDIENCES TO THE BALLET AND NOT JUST LONGTIME FANS, THE COMPANY BEGAN A VISUAL ART COLLABORATION, ENTITLED NYCB ART SERIES, WITH ARTISTS WHO HAVE BROAD APPEAL AND NAME RECOGNITION AMONG THE TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC. THE OPENINGS FOR THE ART EXHIBITIONS WERE SCHEDULED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SECOND TWO ACCESS EVENINGS IN THE WINTER AND SPRING. BOTH PERFORMANCES SOLD OUT IN A MATTER OF HOURS AND SUBSEQUENT AUDIENCE ANALYSIS SHOWED THAT MORE THAN 80% OF THE SINGLE TICKET BUYERS WERE FIRST-TIMERS TO NYCB PERFORMANCES. | Description |
