DescriptionFundraising - United Arts actively seeks funding opportunities for arts and cultural organizations through fundraising campaigns, major and planned giving programs and corporate and foundation grants. United Arts coordinates the largest collaborative fundraising campaign in the state in support of arts and culture in Central Florida. Twelve of the region's large arts and cultural organizations and four partner organizations actively participate in raising operating support for the arts community. Donations designated to one or more of these "cultural partners" during the collaborative campaign are matched at 15% through the generosity of United Arts' Trustee and corporate donors. In FY13, United Arts raised over $5 million for arts and culture, $2.2 million of which was designated directly to regional arts, sciences and history organizations. In addition, United Arts disbursed over $233,000 in matching funds in FY13. In FY14, United Arts will disburse over $257,000 in matching funds. In May 2013, United Arts acquired the Central Florida license for power2give from the Arts & Science Council of Charlotte, NC. Power2give is a next-generation, web-based fundraising tool through which nonprofit arts and cultural organizations can raise up to $10,000 for specific projects. In its first six weeks of operation, $115,713 in project and matching funds were secured. Please note: United Arts operates in a fiscally conservative manner and prepares its budget on a forward-funding model, meaning funds raised during the annual campaign in one fiscal year fund grants and operations in the following fiscal year. For this reason, in periods of declining economies where funds raised one year may be lower than the prior year, United Arts may show either a deficit one year or a large net income the next. The forward-funding model ensures the agency has the committed funds on hand each year to fund the grants and operations in its annual budget.Description

In FY13, $186,250 in funding was awarded to 34 organizations. These organizations provided residents and visitors with 1,105,055 arts and cultural experiences throughout the Central Florida region. 3) Artist Development Grants (ADG) are grants that support activities that further the careers of artists and art administrators. In FY13, $29,210 in support grants was awarded to 18 individual artists and arts administrators. In addition, United Arts provided $18,000 in Mini-grant funding for organizations whose budget size and project do not fit the criteria of our other grant programs.Description

DescriptionArts Education Programming - United Arts facilitates curriculum-based K-12 arts education programming in the community through contracted services with local school districts and our General Operating Support and Organizational Project grantees. United Arts' arts education initiatives expose students to music theater, dance, film, ballet, and museums of art, history and science. In FY13, forty-four (44) diverse cultural organizations - all of them funded by United Arts - provided 676,109 curriculum-based arts education experiences for students in grades K-12. United Arts contracts with Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) to provide curriculum-based arts education services to OCPS students in K-12 (contract amount - $412,500). In FY13, United Arts leveraged grant funding for arts education to encourage Lake, Osceola and Seminole counties to follow Orange County's lead and bring arts education services to their students. For the first time in United Arts' 24-year history, we were able to bring arts education services to students in all four counties. Statistics show that children that have arts credits in their curriculum have improved performance, are more likely to stay in school and are more likely to graduate. Engaging with the arts encourages critical thinking, resulting in more student engagement in the learning process and fewer discipline problems. This applies to all students regardless of ethnicity and socio-economic background. Arts experiences in our schools is a vital component of the education process.Description

Donor designated grants 2,320,161.Part XII, Line 4b - Other Adjustments:
The Organization identifies and evaluates uncertain tax positions, if any, and recognizes the impact of uncertain tax positions for which there is a less than more-likely-than-not probability of the position being upheld when reviewed by the relevant taxing authority. Such positions are deemed to be unrecognized tax benefits and a corresponding liability is established on the statement of financial position. The Organization has not recognized a liability for uncertain tax positions. If there were an unrecognized tax benefit, The Organization would recognize interest accrued related to unrecognized tax benefits in interest expense and penalties in operating expenses. The Organization's remaining open tax years subject to examination by the Internal Revenue Service generally remain open for three years from the date of filing.
