DescriptionThrough the development and administration of philanthropic activities, the Bradley Hospital Foundation is able to transfer various funds raised to Bradley Hospital to support its operating activities, which in turn benefit the Rhode Island community. For example, $79,172 was used for general support of the Developmental Disability Genetic Research Program. Another $67,263 was transferred for technology purchases that include:computers, cameras, scanners and printers for the Intensive Behavioral Treatment Program. Also, $55,871 was provided in support of the Pediatric Mood Imaging Neuro Development program (PediMIND), which uses brain imaging techniques, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), behavioral measures, and genetic analyses to identify biological and behavioral markers (scans and tests) of psychiatric illness, including bipolar disorder, in children and adolescents.Description

DescriptionThe Foundation's Capital Campaign helps defray Bradley Hospital's cost of expansion, construction, renovation, equipping and furnishing of a major two-story addition to its patient care/residential school facilities, as well as the renovation of existing space to expand Bradley Hospital's partial, residential, school and outpatient programs and its research studies. The new Bradley Hospital building, which opened 4/1/09, is helping to meet the rising demand for child and adolescent mental health services and enhance the overall quality of care for children and their families. It has been designed to be a modern, state-of-the-art facility consisting of 60 private rooms that also provides a comfortable child-focused atmosphere that is essential to the care and therapy of patients. The redesign allows Bradley Hospital staff to better monitor and respond more quickly to patients and their needs.Description

DescriptionMajor philanthropic activity in support of Bradley Hospital's Communication, Occupational and Sensory Treatment (COAST) Clinic, totaling $150,000 in fiscal year 2012. This program is for children and adolescents with a co-occurring sensory processing disorder which impairs speech and language. This program focuses on the disorder's impact on home and community functioning, and targets those who require further exploration of how their sensory processing systems impact their speech, language and practical life skills in the home and community settings.Additionally, Bradley Hospital Foundation transferred $5,000 to The Miriam Hospital in support of its Parenting Matters program, a program that provides parents and caregivers the tools to help them raise happy, healthy children.Description

Part XPart X : FIN48 FootnoteBradley Hospital Foundation (the Foundation), as a not-for-profit corporation, is recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is exempt from Federal income taxes. The Foundation recognizes the effect of income tax positions only if those positions are more likely than not of being sustained. Recognized income tax positions are measured at the largest amount of benefit that is greater than fifty percent likely to be realized upon settlement. Changes in measurement are reflected in the period in which the change in judgment occurs. ExplanationThe Organization engages in philanthropic activities to support the mission and purposes of Bradley Hospital, a related 501(c)(3) organization. During the year ended September 30, 2012, the Organization made temporarily restricted net asset transfers to Bradley Hospital amounting to $1,150,642 to be spent by Bradley Hospital in support of certain building and equipment additions and specified clinical programs. A master database of Bradley Hospital Foundation's temporarily restricted funds is maintained as the primary source for identifying each fund's restriction, the availability of the current balance and the authorized personnel for the respective fund. The database contains the fund's name, primary reporting department, most recent month end balance, fund purpose/restriction, and the management responsible for the fund. Expenditures (purchase requisitions, work order requisitions, check requests and employee reimbursements) from Bradley Hospital's temporarily restricted funds must be presented to the Lifespan Finance Department for approval prior to processing. Each request is reviewed to ensure the availability of funds and that the expense/purchase is both in conformity with the fund's restriction and approved by the required levels of authorized personnel referenced in the database.Explanation

ExplanationTax Indemnification and Gross-up Payments:The Lifespan Executive Long Term Disability program provides financial protection to designated Lifespan executives in the event that they become disabled. Premiums are paid to the insurance carrier by the insureds on an after tax basis to allow for income replacement at a reasonable cost. The income associated with the premiums is grossed-up to cover the total cost of the benefit as provided in the Lifespan Executive Benefit Plan and is included in Medicare wages, more specifically on Schedule J, Part II, Column B (iii).Social Club Dues:The job responsibilities of certain executives include development of relationships with business leaders and donors. Those relationships are facilitated by the ability to meet in private sessions during which focused business discussions take place. The Hope and University Clubs, which require individual memberships, are places in Providence where businessmen and women, civic, community and social leaders can gather in a business-like atmosphere. The cost of membership is considered by Lifespan to be reasonable and necessary and thus a qualified business expense not taxable to the employee. IRS regulations regarding documentation requirements are followed for any payments made for meetings held at the respective club, including the business purpose and nature of the business benefit derived; the nature of the business discussion or activity; and the identity and business relationship of attendees.Explanation
