| Description | Day school program: Minnick Education Centers, located in Roanoke, Harrisonburg, and Wytheville, work with public schools in 24 localities and served over 200 students last school year. All schools offer individualized instruction and a treatment team that works closely with the public school, student and family. A rounded curriculum is aligned with the state Standards of Learning and includes art, music, physical education and driver's ed. Technology-rich classrooms and online curriculum programs such as NovaNet help students keep up with their public school peers. To prevent more restrictive out-of-school placements, we offer educational aides to assist students in the full-day program, those transitioning back to public schools, and those experiencing problems in the public school classroom. | Description |

| Description | Foster care services: LFSVA recruits and trains therapeutic foster parents so that children in foster care will have a stable, loving, home environment while they are healing from the situation that caused the family disruption. We provide continuing agency support, training and emergency access to an agency social worker 24 hours a day. Our goal is to help children move toward permanency. In fact, many of our families adopt the children they foster. We assist families in adopting from foster care in Virginia and the U.S. and through a state grant, accelerate adoptions by providing video, flyers and other materials to bring eligible foster children to the attention of families wishing to adopt. | Description |

We offer adoption services to individuals and couples interested in special needs adoption, foster-to-adopt and home studies for domestic infants. We provide in-depth training on parenting and support throughout the adoption process. We also offer families the option to be certified as both foster and adoptive parents and assist families in adopting from foster care in Virginia and in the U.S. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Therapeutic Day Treatment: This program offers individualized therapeutic mental health support for the student and family within Minnick Education Centers and also in public school settings. We help students with such important life challenges as anger management, substance abuse, self esteem and grief through behavioral interventions, individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention. TDT employs a team approach that includes the day treatment specialist and counselor working with teachers and other school staff members. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Older Adult services: LFSVA helps aging adults and their caregivers make important decisions during this natural life transition. We offer information and referral and phone consultation to all Virginias. In the Richmond area we offer geriatric care assessments, consultation and mental health services. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 10: Day school program: Minnick Education Centers, located in Roanoke, Harrisonburg, and Wytheville, work with public schools in 24 localities and served over 200 students last school year. All schools offer individualized instruction and a treatment team that works closely with the public school, student and family. A rounded curriculum is aligned with the state Standards of Learning and includes art, music, physical education and driver's ed. Technology-rich classrooms and online curriculum programs such as NovaNet help students keep up with their public school peers. To prevent more restrictive out-of-school placements, we offer educational aides to assist students in the full-day program, those transitioning back to public schools, and those experiencing problems in the public school classroom. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 11: Day school autism program: The highly regarded MEC autism program offers individualized instruction geared to the unique needs of the student and his family. Our classrooms are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, successful, research-based strategies that systematically teaches behavior in a highly structured environment. With the goal that students will transfer their new behavioral and life skills from the classroom to home and from home to the community, we give children many opportunities to learn and practice. We also support parents through mini-workshops, evaluate parent-child interaction, and invite family members to observe our staff interacting with their student to understand and apply our techniques. To ensure that we are adhering to best practices, our staff is offered a rich array of ongoing training. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 12: Therapeutic support services: LFSVA helps young people at risk of being removed from their homes, who have been removed, or who are in foster care, acquire life and coping skills. TSS helps children and youth understand and communicate their feelings, relate appropriately to their peers, and develop healthy relationships with other adults so that they can become more connected and responsible members of their families, schools and communities. LFSVA also offers a volunteer mentoring program created with funding from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. MentorMatch, a national mentoring model, trains and connects volunteer mentors with young people who are involved in the foster care or juvenile justice systems. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 13: Grief services: LFSVA provides a supportive and safe environment for grieving individuals to share and validate their feelings of grief and loss; community education on grief and loss issues; and support during times of crisis or disaster response. We offer support groups, workshops and seminars on loss; community support meetings; support to schools following loss or traumatic events; and debriefings about critical incidents, crises and natural or human-made disaster.
