Description	THE ORGANIZATION FACILITATES ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION FOR MISSISSIPPI'S HOSPITALS IN AN ORGANIZED, EFFICIENT, AND RESPECTFUL MANNER. CURRENTLY, OVER 1,100 MISSISSIPPIANS ARE ON THE ORGAN TRANSPLANT WAITING LIST WITH OVER 1,000 WAITING FOR A KIDNEY TRANSPLANT. EVERY TEN MINUTES, A NEW NAME IS ADDED TO THE NATIONAL TRANSPLANT WAITING LIST. EACH DAY AN AVERAGE OF 18 PEOPLE DIE FROM THE LACK OF AVAILABLE ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANT. ONE OF THE ORGANIZATION'S GOALS IS TO ELIMINATE THIS CRISIS BY BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE AN ORGAN TO ALL WHO NEED ONE. KEY ELEMENTS OF THIS EFFORT INCLUDE EDUCATING THE PUBLIC AND ESTABLISHING COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE ORGANIZATION AND HOSPITAL STAFFS. THE ORGANIZATION PROMOTES DONOR AWARENESS IN MANY WAYS - AT MEDICAL CONVENTIONS, CIVIC MEETINGS, COMMUNITY EVENTS, HEALTH FAIRS, SCHOOLS AND CHURCHES. THROUGH THE ORGANIZATION'S EFFORTS, A DONOR REGISTRY HAS BEEN CREATED WHERE PEOPLE CAN LET THEIR WISHES BE KNOWN. ALSO, THEY CONTINUED TO WORK ON A FEDERAL APPROPRIATION TO BE A PART OF THE FUNDING FOR THE MISSISSIPPI GIFT OF LIFE CENTER. ONCE COMPLETED, IT IS ESTIMATED THIS BUILDING WILL SAVE CMS APPROXIMATELY $250,000 EACH YEAR DUE TO LOWER COSTS TO RECOVER ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANTS. IN REGARDS TO THE STATE GOVERNMENT, CAPITOL RESOURCES AND BETTY DICKSON WORKED TIRELESSLY DURING THE STATE LEGISLATIVE SESSION TO PREVENT THE CORONERS FROM OVERTURNING THE PREVIOUSLY PASSED LAW THAT ALLOWS FOR DONATION OF ORGANS.
