| Description | In 2011, the State Bar of Texas named the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program (HVLP) the Outstanding Pro Bono Organization in Texas. During the 2011 year, HVLP provided civil legal services affecting the lives of at least 21,892 low income men, women, and children living in Harris County and surrounding areas. HVLP closed 4,879 client files in 2011, and another 8,372 courthouse booth files the booth that assists pro se litigants at the Harris County Family Courthouse. HVLP provides the majority of its services to its clients through volunteer lawyers throughout the Houston area. In 2011, these volunteers logged 22,403 hours of pro bono time. At a rate of $200 per hour, this is a benefit to low-income persons seeking legal assistance of $4,480,600. | Description |
