Mission DescriptionEducation for an Inspired Life: A Fairfield University education has become more integrated in focus, more global in outlook, and more intentional in its structure than ever before. In the Jesuit tradition, we are committed to creating a student-focused, holistic, and diverse educational environment - intended to educate the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. We want to cultivate in both our undergraduate and graduate students a sense of community and strong ethical and spiritual values to guide them on their paths into the future. Join us in this community enterprise, where all of us are called to come together in the spirit and practice of collaboration.MissionDescription

DescriptionFACILITIES AND OPERATIONS 1) Fairfield University has just completed an ambitious, $60 million building and renovation plan of its residential facilities, one that not only adds 200 beds but, more importantly, in its design balances the need for the campus to be a place where students can grow academically, socially and spiritually. Two new residence halls have been built and extensive renovations completed to two other buildings. The effort will reduce the number of students in rooms and apartments, while improving the overall quality of their living arrangements. At the heart of the 'Living and Learning' initiative, as it is known, is providing students - from freshmen to seniors - with a supportive network of peers, faculty and other mentors throughout their undergraduate years. The scope of these residences will support this effort. At the same time, the hope is to foster opportunities for students to discover their passions or deepest desires for life.2) Fairfield was presented with the 2010 Energy Start Combined Heat and Power Award by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA praised Fairfield for joining the ranks of institutes of higher learning that produce their own heat and power because of mounting concerns over rising energy costs and a congested utility grid. With an operating efficiency of approximately 55 percent, the system requires approximately 22 less fuel than typical onsite thermal generation. The $9.5 million project was done in collaboration with United Technologies Carrier, the United Illuminating Company and the State of Connecticut. 3) The new Bellarmine Museum of Art has opened its doors. The facility, built at a cost of $3.2 million is a dynamic center of learning for all of its constituencies, including students of all ages and stages, art professionals, and members of the general public. In addition to hosting temporary exhibitions, the museum serves as a permanent sanctuary for the University growing permanent art collection.Description

DescriptionACADEMICS1) The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded the School of nursing one of its largest federal grants ever. The grant will fund a new state-of-the-art mock operating room for graduate students enrolled in the University Master of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia programs. HRSA also awarded the School a $233,000 grant to develop a new geriatric simulation clinic. 2) Fairfield dedicated the new Kathryn P. Koslow Center for Marriage and Family Therapy - a service for the entire area community. The Koslow Center is a training facility for Marriage and Family Therapy graduate students is provides individuals, couples and families with clinical services regardless of their ability to pay. 3) The School of Engineering has upgraded its Mechanical Engineering teaching laboratory including a thermal-hydraulics laboratory, thanks to a grant from the Earl and Hilda Brinkman Family Foundation. The skill set students will acquire will be valuable for working in numerous industries. 4) The Graduate School of Education announced an innovative new program that re-thinks teacher education for undergraduates and offers the advantage of acting early to make focused choices about teacher training. The School, in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences is offering a five-year integrated bachelor of arts-master of arts degree teacher certification program.5) Fairfield has been awarded a $300,000 three-year grant by the U.S. Agency for International Development for a project in Senegal. Faculty from two Fairfield Schools will share co-directorship for the project that will leverage new learning technologies as appropriate for the local environment for teaching health education programs in that country.Description

Description of Intended Use of Endowment Funds:Part V, Line 4:The University's endowment is an aggregation of gifts provided by donors with the requirement they be held in perpetuity to generate earnings now and in future years to support the University's programs of instruction, research and public service and funds designated by the Board of Trustees to function as endowment. Earnings from endowment investments support scholarships, chairs, professorships, fellowships, basic research, as well as academic and public service programs.
