| Description | Tarrant Area Food Bank provides donated and purchased food to charities in 13 counties in North Texas. Total distribution of food was 27 million pounds of which 26.2 million went to 300 partner agencies and other regional Feeding America food banks. Agencies provided emergency or supplemental assistance to 45,000 families per month and served an average of 515,000 meals and snacks per month. 7 mobile pantries delivered 1.5 million pounds of food to over 10,000 individuals every month to ensure the distribution of fresh and perisable foods that are not easily stored by the pantries but are consistently available to food banks. 3 satellite endeavors deliver to remote counties in the service area. | Description |

The Cooking Matters (formerly Operation Frontline) curriculum developed by Share Our Strength focuses on reducing hunger and poor nutrition among families with limited resources by using cooking classes to teach nutrition and to change eating habits. Chefs and nutrition educators volunteered their time to present 23 series of these classes to parents, teens and younger children; 1,501 people received 17,925 meals. The Food bank has assisted with 16 community gardens; over 5,000 pounds of food was donated to agencies with 230 active program participants. 5. SNAP (formerly food stamps) outreach was conducted at 152 different sites and during 6 community fairs. over 5,000 snap applications were handed out and over 3,000 interviews were conducted by food bank staff. 3.4 million meals can be attributed to food bank snap outreach. |
