| Explanation | Second Century Fund is exempt from federal income taxes under the provisions of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Second Century Fund is also exempt from state income taxes. The Organization follows Accounting Standards Codification Topic 740-10-25, Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes ("ASC 740-10-25") with respect to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes effective January 1, 2009. ASC 740-10-25 clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's financial statements. Upon adoption of this accounting pronouncement, the Organization had no unrecognized income tax benefits. Furthermore, the Organization had no unrecognized income tax benefits at December 31, 2011 and 2010. As of December 31, 2011 and 2010, the Organization had no open years subject to examination prior to 2008. The Organization had no income tax related penalties or interest for the years reported in these consolidated financial statements. | Explanation |
