Part XPart X : FIN48 FootnoteSince the Taxpayer's consolidated audit includes its Foundation and Political Action Committee, the following is taken from the part of the footnote related to this taxpayer:Income taxes: The Association is generally exempt from income taxes on income under the provisions of Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. Income from nonexempt functions is subject to unrelated business income tax. The Association had income tax expense, relating to advertising income, of $96,138 and $69,800 for the years ended December 31, 2011 and 2010, respectively. Deferred taxes are provided on a liability method whereby deferred tax assets are recognized for deductible temporary differences and operating loss and tax credit carryforwards and deferred tax liabilities are recognized for taxable temporary differences. Temporary differences are the differences between the reported amounts of assets and liabilities and their tax bases. Deferred tax assets are reduced by a valuation allowance when, in the opinion of management, it is more likely than not that some portion or all of the deferred tax assets will not be realized. Deferred tax assets and liabilities are adjusted for the effects of changes in tax laws and rates on the date of enactment. The Association follows the accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, which addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under this guidance, the Association may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50 percent likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. The guidance on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes also addresses de-recognition, classification, interest and penalties on income taxes, and accounting in interim periods. Management evaluated the Association's tax positions and concluded that the Association had taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements to comply with the provisions of this guidance. Generally, the Association is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the U.S. federal, state or local tax authorities for years before 2008.

Part VII, Section A, Column B - Hours for Related OrganizationsEdith A. Rosato worked approximately 20 hrs per week for the NACDS Foundation, a related organization. David M. Fitzsimmons worked approximately 2 hrs per week for the NACDS Foundation.
Page 1, Item G- Gross ReceiptsGross Receipts per item G on page 1 is higher than total revenue reported on page 1 line 12, because sales of investments are reported gross on item G, whereas they are reported only at the "gain or loss on the sale" amount on line 12.Transfers to/from the taxpayer's investment accounts and checking account have not been included in gross receipts.Taxpayer engages a professional investment advisor to manage Long-Term investments. The amount invested has been relatively constant in the $20-25 million range for several years. As the investment manager re-allocates among various mutual funds during the year, this shows as a "Gross Receipt" on Page 1- Item G, even though this is not technically a new receipt of outside money to the organization.Page 1, line 12 provides a more accurate total for the taxpayer's total receipts for the year.
Balance Sheet - Other Assets ExplanationIncluded in Other Assets on the Balance Sheet is a $1.9 million investment in SureScripts,LLC. One aspect of SureScripts' business is transmission of electronic prescriptions. Taxpayer made an investment in SureScripts to help it initially get up and running. Taxpayer owns approximately 25% of SureScripts, but does not believe this constitutes control, given the current ownership structure. The investment is shown at original cost, less a valuation allowance.
