PART X, LINE 2	EXPLANATION FOR UNCERTAIN TAX PROVISIONS UNDER FIN 48	The Society is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. However, income from certain activities not directly related to the Society's tax-exempt purpose is subject to taxation as unrelated business income. In addition, the Society qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under Section 170(b)(1)(A) and has been classified as an organization other than a private foundation under Section 509(a)(1). The Society follows a minimum recognition threshold that a tax position is required to meet in order to be recognized in the financial statements. The Society believes that it had no uncertain tax positions as defined in the standard and, as a result, the adoption of the new standard had no impact on the Society's financial statements. The Society recognizes accrued interest and penalties associated with uncertain tax positions, if any, as a management and general expense. There were no income tax related interest or penalties recorded for the years ended December 31, 2011 and 2010. The federal and state exempt organization tax returns of the Society are subject to examination by the Internal Revenue Service and various other taxing authorities, generally for three years after they were filed.
