Bad Debt FootnotePart III, Line 4: The provision for bad debts is based upon management's assessment of expected net collections considering economic conditions, historical experience, trends in health care coverage, and other collection indicators. Periodically throughout the year, management assesses the adequacy of the allowance for uncollectible accounts based upon historical write-off experience by payor category, including those amounts not covered by insurance. The results of this review are thenused to make any modifications to the provision for bad debts to establish an appropriate allowance for uncollectible accounts. After satisfaction of amounts due from insurance and reasonable efforts to collect from the patient have been exhausted, the Health Ministry follows established guidelines for placing certain past-due patient balances with collection agencies, subject to the terms of certain restrictions on collection efforts as determined by Ascension Health. Accounts receivable are written off after collection efforts have been followed in accordance with the Health Ministry's policies.BadDebtFootnote

Services for adults include screening for blood pressure, anemia, blood sugar, cholesterol, glaucoma, and osteoporosis screenings. Services for children include free physical exams by a physician, and screenings for hearing, vision, and blood pressure. The mobile unit serves more than 4200 people annually. Our Faith Community Nurse Program, which is administered by the community wellness outreach department along with Mission in Motion, is a program where nurses volunteer within their own churches to promote the health and wellness of members of the congregation. Senior Services: Health education, screenings and wellness programs are offered at no cost to seniors aged 55 and older. Examples include early awareness and detection education for diseases that are prevalent in older adults such as thyroid disease, stoke, or macular degeneration. Additionally, there are monthly self help groups organized in areas such as grief support, advance directives, cancers, diabetes and stroke. Seton Center for Gynecology and Obstetrics: Provides comprehensive services including management of high risk pregnancies to patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Health Fairs: Sacred Heart Health System, Inc. conducts free Health Fairs at all of its hospitals and off campus locations. These are open to the public and provide free health screenings, health information and advice, blood sugar and total cholesterol screenings, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, body fat, grip testing, and stroke risk assessments. Parish Nurse Program: Offers a community service in which nurses volunteer within their own churches to promote the health and wellness of members of the congregation. Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola is proud to work with Lutheran Services to provide the Ryan White Title II Case Management Program, serving those in our community living with AIDS and the HIV virus. Our program is designed to provide comprehensive information and assistance to clients and their families in areas including outpatient medical care, dental care, mental health services, and medications. Through this program, clients and their families are also linked with local agencies that can assist with needs related to housing, transportation, drug and alcohol treatment, and food. Through Partners in Education, we provide volunteer mentors and clinical supplies for a Pensacola elementary school in a low-income neighborhood. We continue our participation in a Partnership for a Healthy Community, the cooperative effort to improve the health status of all citizens by providing outreach and educational activities. Through ongoing Assistance to Missionary Projects, we provide funding, clinical supplies and volunteer assistance for a number of area, national and international relief efforts.
