| Description | THE NATIONAL BOARD ON CERTIFICATION AND RECERTIFICATION OF NURSE ANESTHETISTS (NBCRNA) IS THE CREDENTIALING ORGANIZATION FOR NURSE ANESTHETISTS. THIS INCLUDES INITIAL CERTIFICATION OF APPROXIMATELY 2,400 REGISTERED NURSES PER YEAR AND RECERTIFICATION OF 38,000 NURSE ANESTHETISTS EVERY TWO YEARS. THERE ARE TWO COUNCILS WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDE THE CERTIFICATION AND RECERTIFICATION SERVICES: THE COUNCIL ON CERTIFICATION OF NURSE ANESTHETISTS (CCNA) AND THE COUNCIL ON RECERTIFICATION OF NURSE ANESTHETISTS (COR). THE NBCRNA CCNA PROTECTS AND SERVES THE PUBLIC BY ASSURING THAT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE CREDENTIALED HAVE MET PREDETERMINED QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS FOR PROVIDING NURSE ANESTHESIA SERVICES FOR ENTRY INTO PRACTICE. THE NBCRNA COR SEEKS TO ADVANCE THE QUALITY OF NURSE ANESTHESIA CARE PROVIDED TO PATIENTS. SPECIFICALLY, IT ENDEAVORS TO MAKE SURE THAT NURSE ANESTHETISTS ARE MAINTAINING THEIR SKILLS AND KEEPING CURRENT WITH SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS. FROM JANUARY 1 TO DECEMBER 31, 2010, A TOTAL OF 2,294 FIRST-TIME CANDIDATES TOOK THE NATIONAL CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION (NCE) WITH AN OVERALL PASS RATE OF 88.9 PERCENT. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CANDIDATES CERTIFIED IN 2010 WAS, 2,187 (BOTH FIRST-TIME AND REPEAT TAKERS). FROM JANUARY 1 TO NOVEMBER 30, 2010, A TOTAL OF 3,245 CANDIDATES TOOK THE SELF-EVALUATION EXAMINATION (SEE). FOR THE 2010 - 2012 RECERTIFICATION PERIOD, THE NBCRNA RECERTIFIED 19,468 CRNAS; GRANTED 49 CONDITIONAL AND 109 PROVISIONAL RECERTIFICATIONS; AND REVOKED 3 RECERTIFICATIONS. | Description |
