ExplanationItem g: Amount represents the salaries and expenses of employees who engaged in lobbying activities on behalf of South Shore Hospital. Item i: $42,334 represents a percentage of the Hospital's annual apportionment of MHA/AHA dues attributable to lobbying expenses. MHA/AHA gives its members an annual percentage breakdown of member dues utilized for lobbying activities. For the year ended September 30, 2010 it was determined that 24.94% of dues was used for lobbying purposes. The remaining $15,000 represents amounts paid to an outside firm for public relations expenses. South Shore Hospital advocates for public policy that positively impacts the health and well-being of the communities we serve. The Hospital works with local, state and federal officials to advance initiatives that will enhance public safety, improve access to health services, assure appropriate health care reimbursements and stimulate economic development. We partner with state and national health care associations to develop and improve government-funded programs. We welcome elected and nonelected officials to visit our hospital to discuss health care policy issues affecting our region, the Commonwealth and the nation.Explanation
