DescAntioch University is a bold and enduring source of innovation in higher education serving nearly 4,000 adult students around the world and across the country, online and from its five campuses in four states, in addition to its University-wide doctoral programs. The University's mission is guided by the core values of Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Nurturing Student Achievement, Supporting Scholarship and Service, A Commitment to Social Engagement, and Building and Serving Inclusive Communities. Campuses fulfill the mission through serving the educational needs of the communities in their regions; the online programs expand access to education through high quality, affordable, and flexible education. During Fiscal Year 2017 (July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017), the University launched several new partnership initiatives and programs aimed at meeting the pressing needs of its regions and the wider world. Here are a few highlights. The Seattle Campus welcomed the first cohort of students for a new graduate program, designed for master's level counselors who want to take their careers to the next level by gaining a PhD. The PhD CES offers cognate areas in either Counselor Education and Supervision or Creative Arts Therapy Counselor Education and Supervision. In addition to providing a Creative Arts Therapy cognate which supports participation from AUS Creative Arts Therapy master's graduates, this program will also support the AUS social justice mission by encouraging students to develop a multicultural counselor identity and an appreciation for diversity, while also requiring core coursework in social justice and advocacy.New England's Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (CMHC) was among the nine programs nationally awarded the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) grant through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services HRSA Division. The CMHC program will provide addictions counseling training and supervised clinical experience to twenty master's degree students completing their internships at sites within the Monadnock region. In addition, the initiative will devote resources toward addressing the training needs of the current workforce by concurrently providing the curriculum to local clinicians and clinical supervisors.Antioch University Midwest (AUM) announced 3+1 initiatives with several community colleges in the Miami Valley, Ohio region. The 3+1 pathways honor AUM's mission to make a bachelor's degree affordable and accessible. The pathways have been designed working side by side with community college faculty with input from advisors and students to best align associate's programs with degree completion at the bachelor's level. Santa Barbara's existing Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology program added a concentration in Somatic Psychotherapy to meet the growing demand for specialization in this cutting edge field. Now considered crucial in the treatment of trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and more, somatic psychotherapy combines traditional treatment with bodily awareness and the interconnection of the body, emotions, identity, and cognition. The Los Angeles campus added a concentration and certificate in Applied Spatial Analysis for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as part of the Urban Sustainability Master's Degree. This concentration and certificate in Applied Spatial Analysis for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), meets the demand for qualified GIS professionals in various fields ranging from conservation and environmental sciences, business administration, clinical psychology, sustainability, to advocacy and social justice, epidemiology, and education. The Graduate School of Leadership and Change was well represented at the International Leadership Conference in Atlanta in Fall 2016. AU GSLC was represented well by current students and alumni in 16 presentations ranging from Cultivating Inclusive Leadership and Leading Social Justice to Gender Inclusivity in Higher Education Leadership.Desc

Part IV, Line 2b:Deposits held for others are tuition payments made by the students and either 1) not yet applied to the student account, or 2) are overpayments to be refunded to the student.
Part V, Line 4:The University's endowment consists of approximately 30 individual donor restricted endowment funds established for a variety of purposes. The endowment of the University is intended for student aid and general institutional support.
Part X, Line 2:The University is a qualifying organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and is, therefore, exempt from income taxes under the IRC Section 501(a) on its normal operations. However, the University is taxed on other unrelated income, if any. The University follows FASB guidance on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, which addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under this guidance, the University may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the University, the continued tax-exempt status of bonds issued by the University, and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (UBIT). The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50 percent likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. The guidance on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes also addresses de-recognition, classification, interest and penalties on income taxes, and accounting in interim periods. At June 30, 2017 and 2016, there were no unrecognized tax benefits indentified or recorded as liabilites. The University file Forms 990 in the U.S. federal jurisdiction and the required states. With few exceptions, the University is no longer subject to examination by the Internal Revenue Service for years before 2014.
Part XI, Line 2d - Other Adjustments:Change in fair value of interest rate swaps 320,339.

Part XII, Line 2d - Other Adjustments:Postretirement changes other than net periodic postretirement cost 13,638.

Schedule E, Part I, Line 3See Part II of Schedule E
Schedule E, Part I, Line 6The University participates in the Federal Financial Aid program administered by the Department of Education as well as grant programs from the various states the University operates in.
Schedule E, Part 1 Line 3Antioch University, formerly known as Antioch College, has a proud history of being one of the first institutions in the mid 1850's to admit African Americans into the same academic programs as whites. It is also notably the alma mater of Coretta Scott King and others who worked for the civil rights movements of the 1960's. Shortly after its incorporation in 1852, it amended its articles of incorporation to provide that, "nor shall religious or theological opinions of any kind or considerations of race, creed, or national origin ever be used as a basis for excluding a person from its benefits." The University has since expanded its policy of nondiscrimination requiring that "Antioch provides equal opportunity for all qualified applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, ancestry, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, family status or disability in matters affecting employment or in providing access to programs." It now includes its nondiscrimination policy statement in all brochures and other recruitment materials as well as in the course catalog. Finally, the policy is clearly posted on the website of each University campus and program. Further, as per section 4.03 paragraph c, the University currently enrolls students of racial minorities in meaningful numbers. Per section 4.03 paragraph b of Rev. Proc. 75-50, 1975-2 CB 587, the University is not required to further annually publish its nondiscriminatory policy in the local community because it draws a substantial percentage of its students from a nationwide or large geographical area, as well as internationally.
