| Explanation | Effective July 1, 2009, the Association adopted the provisions of ASC Topic 740, Income Taxes, as it relates to accounting for uncertainties in income taxes. This guidance prescribes a recognition threshold and a measurement attribute for the financial statement recognition and measurement of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. It also provides guidance on de-recognition, classification, interest and penalties, disclosures and transition on uncertain tax positions. For these tax benefits to be recognized, a tax position must be more-likely-than-not to be sustained upon the examination by taxing authorities. Differences between the amounts reported as a result of adoption were accounted for as a cumulative effect adjustment recorded to net assets as of July 1, 2009. The open tax years are generally the three prior tax years ended June 30, 2009 through June 30, 2011 plus the current tax year ended June 30, 2012 for the federal and the prior four tax years ended June 30, 2008 through June 30, 2011 plus the current tax year ended June 30, 2012 for the California tax jurisdictions. There were no uncertain tax positions identified as of June 30, 2011 or June 30, 2012 and no change is anticipated in the 12 months following June 30, 2012. | Explanation |
