DescriptionUnited Arts has three grant programs that support arts organizations and individual artists in the four-county region: 1) General Operating Support (GOS) grants provide a stabilizing source of general operating funds for the regions 13 cornerstone arts and cultural organizations. In FY12, $1,532,468 in funding was awarded to 13 organizations with 2 additional organizations receiving pass through funding from government partners. These organizations provided residents and visitors with 1,612,912 arts and cultural experiences in the Central Florida region. 2) Organizational Project Grants (OPG) provide matching grants to nonprofit cultural organizations in the four-county region to support smaller, established arts organizations as well as recognize and support imaginitive and experimental projects for arts, sciences, humanities, and other cultural activities. In FY12, $204,670 in funding was awarded to 36 organizations. These organizations provided residents and vistors with 1,105,858 arts and cultural experiences throughout the Central Florida region. 3) Artist Development Grants (ADG) are grants that support activities that further the careers of artists and art administrators. In FY12, $32,099 in support grants was awarded to 24 individual artists and arts administrators. In addition, for organizations that do not fit the criteria of any of these three grant programs, but whose mission aligns with and helps to further the work of United Arts, we may consider a sponsorship. In FY12, United Arts provided $52,388 in sponsorships for organizations in the four-county region whose mission and values promoted arts and culture.Description

DescriptionArts Education Programming: United Arts provides curriculum-based K-12 arts education programming in the community through our General Operating Support and Organizational Project grantees and contracted services with local school districts. United Arts' arts education programming exposes students to music theater, dance, film, ballet, and musuems of art, history and science. In FY12, fifty-one (51) diverse cultural organizations - all of them funded by United Arts - provided 424,237 curriculum-based arts education experiences for students in grades K-12. In addition, our contract with Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) provided curriculum-based arts education services to OCPS students in K-12. (contract amount - $412,500) Through this agreement, every 3rd, 4th and 5th grader attended the Orlando Philharmonic Young People's Concerts and every 2nd grader attended the Orlando Ballet introduction to ballet performance of Sleeping Beauty. In total, sixteen cultural organizations provided 91,629 experiences. Arts experiences in our schools is a vital component of the education process. Engaging with the arts encourages critical thinking, resulting in more student engagement in the learning process and fewer discipline problems. Statistics show that children that have arts credits in their curriculum have improved performance, are more likely to stay in school and are more likely to graduate. This applies to all students regardless of ethnicity and socio-economic background.Description

DescriptionUnited Arts coordinates the largest collaborative fundraising campaign in support of arts and culture in Central Florida. Thirteen of the regions large arts and cultural organizations and four partner organizations actively participate in raising general operating support for the arts community. Donations designated to one or more of these collaborating arts and cultural organization during the collaborative campaign - February 1 - April 30 annually - is matched at 15% by United Arts. Donors may designate funds to any nonprofit arts and cultural organization and United Arts will pass on the funds. Please note: United Arts prepares its budget based on a forward-funding model, meaning funds raised during the annual campaign in one fiscal year fund grants and operations in the following fiscal year. For this reason, in periods of declining economies where funds raised one year may be lower than the prior year, United Arts may show a deficit one year or a large net income the next. The forward-funding model does insure, though, that the agency has the committed funds on hand each year to fund the grants and operations proposed in its annual budget.Description

Donor designated grants 1,813,290.Part XIII, Line 4b - Other Adjustments:
The Organization identifies and evaluates uncertain tax positions, if any, and recognizes the impact of uncertain tax positions for which there is a less than more-likely-than-not probability of the position being upheld when reviewed by the relevant taxing authority. Such positions are deemed to be unrecognized tax benefits and a corresponding liability is established on the statement of financial position. The Organization has not recognized a liability for uncertain tax positions.
