Organizations with nearly identical names
“Lookalikes”
Unusual is not the same as improper. Many of these patterns have ordinary explanations. Check the filing. Report an error.
What this counts
Large organizations that share a name, or almost, with other organizations.
Exact rule: Trigram similarity of the two names (PostgreSQL pg_trgm) of at least 0.9, different EINs. One row per organization reporting $10,000,000 in revenue or $50,000,000 in assets on its latest e-filed return: its closest lookalike (the largest, when several are equally close) and how many it has. Latest filing shown.
Chapters, affiliates, foundations and their operating charities, and organizations in different states often share a name on purpose.
